5th November 2006 - Mwangi Wanjumbi’s business opinions

I ran into Mwangi Wanjumbi a few months ago at the MSK Mtandariko at the Panafric sponsored by Safaricom. At the time, he handed me a business card. I didn't think too much of it until I attended the USIU Alumni AGM yesterday. At the AGM he made an impassioned plea to us all to give back to the community. After the elections I said hi to the fellow and he handed me another card. The guy isn't doing too badly. The gentleman it turns out is the dude who will always be called by Inooro FM (Royal Media's Kikuyu station) to help listeners fathom what is going down in Kenya's turbulent business environment. His proposals have also been adopted by the Youth Development Fund and more.

My greatest interest in the dude is off course his website newtimesconsultants.com. I love bankelele the business blogger but I am always on the lookout for more content in the business field. So it was with some pleasure that I noted that Wanjumbi's website gives opinions on various things happening in the business field and gives them a local /international context. Opinions in his newsletter include telling us why Mohamed Yunus should have won the Nobel Prize, opportunities from Telkom Kenya’s cable woes, how small businesses can benefit from big business and more. It’s a very interesting read.

For more please visit Mwangi Wanjumbi at newtimesconsultants.com for interesting and informative opinions on business.

Thank You Francis,

I am getting overwhelmed by the concerns of keen readers like you. The concern revolves around limited exposure of my writings, which I may not be able to control. However, I believe my articles will in due course get  the necessary space in the mainstream print media.  I look forward to that time.

Regards

M W

Mr. Mwangi Wanjumbi,

After attending one of your workplace learning programs in 2009, I took special interest in reading your business articles that are widely published in professional journals and mainstream dailies sometimes. I am also an avid reader of the Newtimes E-Newsletter which you haveauthored since 2006.

What I now realize is that your understanding of Management/business theory, practice and ability to communicate the same to readers of varying literacy levels is almost unmatched by
other writers in this region. I further note that your writings blend well with your very practical training process, especially judging by my own experience.

Having also reviewed your activities in the recent years, I find you to be a dependable national resource especially with regard to educating the masses not only through the writings, but also classroom situations. My Concern is; why can't your articles be published in the mainstream press especially through a regular column? What does it take for you to be enlisted as a columnist in the Nation or
Standard for example? By the way, your newsletter articles are enough for either of the two media houses.

Kenyans need to be helped with practical information and knowledge from people like you, if the country is likely to become a middle income nation any time in the near future. But, this is only possible if the mainstream press which circulates widely, is involved in making these achievements happen. On this, they only need to enlist the services of resourceful people like you.

I, my colleagues (who experienced your training as well) and my friends too (to whom I forward
our newsletters) are looking forward to reading you regularly in the mainstream press. A column would now be most befitting.

Best Regards

Mr. Ireri,
Thank you for your observations. Many people have for a long time been telling me the same. But, none has had the courage of putting it in writing, the way you have done. Sadly, I have no say on where my articles can be published except in our free in-house Newtimes E-newsletter (which is not accessible to the general public). Nonetheless, I will through a copy of this email

pass your concern to the media authorities that you have mentioned. However, it all depends on them.

Meanwhile, sambaza whatever you can to your colleagues at KCA University as well as students, if possible. Let us educate the masses in whatever way possible.
Regards
Mwangi

7th April 2011

Dear Mwangi Wanjumbi,

ARTICLES ON ETHICS & BUSINESS VALUES/PRACTICES
I have been reading your articles in the mainstream media, professional journals e.g. KIM, IHRM, DIT Magazine and your in-house magazine NewTimes Newsletter on Business Values and Ethics. These articles are very heart-touching and provoke moral integrity of the reader.

I believe these writings were the herald to the construction of Kenya's National Value System (NVS) and the inclusion of a Chapter on Leadership and Integrity in the New Constitution.

Kenyans need to regularly review and inculcate the issues of ethics, integrity values as a key foundation to the achievement of Kenya's Vision 2030. This cannot be achieved without the use of mainstream media both in electronic and print media that reaches the mass market and I wonder why you cannot get a column with Nation or Standard to be writing these issues on a
regular basis. I strongly recommend you as a columnist in these newspapers.

Sincerely

Thanks a lot. I have just read an article about me in your site. I am informing you that I have started a site in the Facebook -integrity police unit and administration police thanks giving group. I am using these two sites to fight corruption. This made me to be interviewed by Voice of America (VOA) and east Africa Radio, USA. The interview was about my fight against corruption.

I am seeing great future for my country through my fight  against corruption. Meanwhile, I am happy to have noted that I am not the only policeman who hates corruption. Through the face book forum, we interact with my fellow police officers and sleep well without involving ourselves in any bribery action.

Thanks once again for your article

help me? S.Oluoch

FEEDBACK: S.Oluoch,

Without doubt, your qualifications have prepared you towards becoming not only self employed but also an employer. You only need to be sharpened on how to unleash your potential. For a start, perhaps you can read the article titled "Money? It is the last thing in my mind."

Just to let you know, I am doing the business that you passionately love; ethics and governance. I saw your article on Business Ethics focusing on Equity Business in DIT Newsletter. Congrats for the good work. I am the one in charge of promoting ethics and values within the KCA University and within Government and Private Sector.  I have attached a draft newsletter of what we do.

Meanwhile, my roles involve organizing :

·          Annual Pan African Conference on Ethics
·          In-House Trainings on Ethics
·          Round Table Meetings on Ethics
·          Business Ethics and Governance Awards

That's my job and I think you will play a very critical role in spearheading the Ethics campaigns through our trainings. You can also write
about KCA University especially how it's championing Ethics Business. KCA University leads the ethics movement through commitment of
becoming a model ethical institution by:

·         Incorporating ethics in KCAU curriculum
·         Offering qualifications in ethics such as in Corporate Governance
·         Being a centre of excellence where other institutions can access resources to promote ethics
·         Offering an evaluation mechanism through the BEGA awards
·         Collaborating with other institutions that promote ethics in Kenya, Africa and the World.

KCA University through its Centre for Ethics and Governance (CEG) seeks to promote moral behavior through
organizing and awarding Business Ethics and Governance Award (BEGA).

J. K. Ireri, Manager, Centre for Ethics & Governance
KCA University
